UFC 92 Fight Coverage and News

UFC 92 is going to be the most stacked UFC fight card of 2008. With three main events there is a lot to look forward to at the end of the year. On December 27th, 2008 the Ultimate Fighter 8 coaches Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will square off in the Octagon to decide who will fight Brock Lesnar, which will decide who is the true undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion. Although this may not be the most exciting fight, it will hopefully end the season of TUF 8 with a surprising bang. Noguiera comes into the fight with a record of 31-4-1, 1 NC, while Mir comes into the night with a record of 11-3. Frank Mir is coming off of his win by Kneebar vs. interem Heavyweight Champ Brock Lesnar, and Nog’s last fight ended via Guillotine over Tim Sylvia.
Also fighting at UFC 92 in the ‘”MAAAAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING” – thanks Mike Goldberg’ will be Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin, who is coming off of his five round destruction of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, defending his title against The Ultimate Fighter Season 2 winner “Sugar” Rashad Evans. In Evans last fight he made quick work of Chuck Lidell by KOing him in round 2 with a vicious right hand. Both fighters have great striking, but I lean more toward Evans having knockout power. Griffin on the other hand has a very strong chin and a huge heart. Griffin will no doubt be working the same leg kicks that he used against Rampage in hopes to slow down Evans’ movement a bit to pick him apart for 5 rounds. The winner of this fight will be the UFC Light Heavyweight champion. Forrest Griffin comes into the fight with a record of 16-4, while Rashad Evans enters the Octagon 12-0-1.

Last but not least, Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva will be set to face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson for the first time in the Octagon. These two have fought before, I posted a Quinton Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva Video on the blog just to show the destruction that Wanderlei has inflicted in the past. This is the fight I am looking forward to the most. In the two previous bouts in Pride, Silva has won by KO and TKO via some of the most brutal knees I have ever seen. Since these two haven’t fought since 2004, I see it possible to be a totally different fight. Rampage still has trouble with leg kicks as we saw in the Forrest Griffin fight, but has no doubt evolved as a fighter for the better. Silva enters the fight with a record of 32-8, while Jackson comes in holding a record of 28-7. If this fight is anywhere nearly as exciting as their last two fights, we are in for a great ending of 2008.
