UFC Fight Night Results – John Fitch vs. Roan Carneiro

June 13th, 2007 | No Comments »

Winner: John Fitch

Fitch and Carneiro circle each other. They exchange punches and surprisingly Carneiro takes the former wrestling captain at Purdue, Fitch, down with relative ease. They scramble a bit in Fitch’s guard until Carneiro gets the advantage in the North/South position. Carneiro works Fitch into an anaconda choke. Fitch looks like he is in trouble but Carneiro couldn’t roll him and Fitch escaped to get back to his feet and in the process land some good knees. Fitch pushes Carneiro to the fence but gives up double under hooks and eventually sucks Fitch and gets another take down. Fitch tries to wriggle his way out but almost gets stuck in the same position as he was earlier in the round. Carneiro was working for a guillotine or an anaconda choke but the round ended.

In the second round Fitch came out quick with a leg kick and managed to fend off another take down attempt by Carneiro. As they came out of a quick clinch Fitch stalked Carneiro and landed a series of huge punches that slumped Carneiro to the ground against the fence. Fitch landed in a mount on top and rained punches. Carneiro almost swept Fitch but John was able to swing around Carneiro in an impressive display of his wrestling talent. Fitch was able to seize the stunned Carneiro’s back and sink in a rear naked choke for the win.

UFC Fight Night Results – Chad Reiner vs. Anthony Johnson

Winner: Anthony Johnson

This is a fight I didn’t research because I didn’t expect the McFedries fight to be so quick. So watching this fight I had no idea what to expect. Hearing the commentary that Reiner went three rounds with Josh Burkman from Joe Rogan I would probably have picked Reiner. But Anthony Johnson showed that whatever past fights Reiner had been in in the past were irrelevant as he barely threw over five punches to knock out Chad Reiner in under thirty seconds.

McFedries comes in quick throwing hard. He catches Radev early and gets him up against the fence. They come off the cage and McFedries throws a high kick. The two fighters pull away momentarily then McFedries pounces and throws a left then comes underneath with a huge uppercut and connects on Jordan Radev’s chin dropping him to the floor. McFedries jumps on the downed Radev and lands three huge blows before the ref stops the fight. McFedries said he was going to win an explosive first round win and he did.
