The UFC Results

In a recent interview Frank Mir regarding his upcoming fight with Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira at UFC 92, Mir has stated that he looks to go the full 25 minutes of the fight. As we’ve seen in the past, Nogueira is a very hard man to finish. He has been knocked down numerous times in the UFC and come out of the fight a bloody mess, but managed to get a submission on his opponent to end the fight. Mir on the other hand is the man who holds the only victory over Brock Lesnar in the UFC, who recently defeated Randy Couture with an authorative knockout at UFC 91. When it comes to jiu jitsu, Nogueira has the obvious advantage due to his longer holding of his black belt and also has a black belt in Judo as well. If it does go to the ground, Mir will have to be able to stop Nogueira’s slow pressure game that he likes to play on top. It has been reported that Fedor  loves feeding Geese while wearing the ever-so-stylish “tube socks and flip flops.”

It has also been reported that Fedor is seeking to challenge Brock Lesnar in a joint event between the UFC, M-1 and Affliction promotions. He has said that he never really wanted to fight Randy Couture because he had a sort of emotional attachment to him and doesn’t like to fight people like that. He does want to fight Brock Lesnar though and prove once and for all that he is the best fighter in the world. This will be yet another attempt at negotiation between Fedor’s management and the UFC’s, which has failed numerous times before.

It’s true. Brock Lesnar has defeated the legend, and he did it in a very convincing fashion. TKO in the second round to defeat the 45 year old verteran Randy Couture is what Lesnar hopes will silence the skeptics. Randy still looked fairly sharp, but definitely not as sharp as he was in his last fight 15 months ago. The time off seems to have aged him more than many would like to admit, and it showed in the second round. As sad as I was to see Randy Couture lose, this man is a monster and I can’t wait to see where he will go from here. Full UFC 91 results here.
