The murmurs around the internet are saying that Frank Mir could face Cheick Kongo next at UFC 107. Both are coming off disappointing losses, especially Kongo. Cheick Kongo finally looked like he was putting together a real MMA game but after getting taken down, and held down by Cain Valesquez the whole fight it looked as if we were watching Kongo circa 2 years ago. He was finally rising to number one contender status but now he has dropped a rung and is probably going to get kicked off the ladder once he faces Mir.
Mir is a horrible match up for Kongo. I would definitely give the striking edge to Kongo but once he’s on the ground he’s done, especially with a submission expert like Mir on top of him. Not only will Mir be able to keep Kongo down like every other opponent Kongo has faced but Mir will be able to finish. Kongo better get a fire lit under his ass and start learning a ground game else he is going to forever be floating near the top but never break the surface of the heavy weight elite.
