The window has been opened, just a crack, for Chuck Liddell to fight, but should it be?

Last Thursday at press conference for UFC 98 Dana White said:

“Am I his father? Can I tell him not to fight? Absolutely not. If he still wants to fight, he can fight. I’m not saying, ‘It will never happen. It will never happen.’ But he made a deal with me. He’s never not listened to me. We’ll see what happens.”

This is quite a departure from his adamant statements after Chuck Liddell’s knockout loss to Mauricio Shogun Rua at UFC 97 claiming the contrary. We felt ready to say good bye Chuck and now it seems like the awkward demise of a legend may be coming true.

It is important for you to know, we love Chuck Liddell. He is a legened, a pioneer and was a devastating champ. Now it just comes down to numbers. He is 1 for 5 in his last 5 fights, and out of those 4 losses he has been knocked out 3 times. So his win percentage is 20% right now that is a big, red flag. He has made a legitimate shot at coming back to win his title but I think he woke up one day and was just a step slower and is not going to have that dream realized. He still has a chance to bow out gracefully and hopefully he can work with Dana to make sure that happens. And now with UFC 2009 Undisputed released we can always get our Chuck fix (he is hard as hell to beat in that game).

I think Chuck has paid his dues and if he wants to fight then let him. It bothers me to see him loose. He is my all time favorite fighter.

  2. CAPman says:

I completely agree—he’s the ‘mike tyson’ that kick started the MMA popularity. He & many others (Hughes for instance) paid their dues so-to-speak & should be allowed to go out when/how they want as long as theres no real danger of them getting hurt. Chuck has been KTFO & brutally I might add– but if he’s still game then let him play the game.
