Good Bye Chuck

It was an exciting moment when Rampage knocked out Chuck Liddell, it looked like the birth of a new feud. There was no doubt in my mind that Chuck would come back and sit upon his 205 throne again. Then Keith Jardine happened. Then Rashad Evans happened. And now Shogun Rua has happened. Some could ask, well what about Wanderlei Silva? I think Wanderlei Silva is facing the same moment of truth Liddell is, they have lost their edge. They have lost that quick step, the ability to get the angle before their opponent does, and well, they are just getting older.

I am a huge Chuck Liddell fan. His pouncing counter knockouts are unforgettable. His cool demeanor and his clear love for fighting are unmatched. But if he drags his career out and keeps getting beaten in this fashion his past glory is going to fade. Everything he worked for and all that he accomplished will look a little tarnished. He desperately needs to bow out gracefully and be content with what he has achieved. Dana White isn’t trying to rob fans of Liddell or play some sort of MMA god, he gets it. He can see what could happen if Liddell continued to fight. White is right on and I desperately hope Liddell listens and does retire so we can all say good bye with a smile instead of a cringe.
