Former interim heavy weight champion, Antonio Noegueira, was commented on by his Muay Thai coach recently explaining his loss to Mir and what he would do to Couture if they fought.
“Minotauro had a knee surgery and will be back to Brazil next weekend…He shouldn’t have done this fight with Mir, his knee was going out all the time. He was supposed to fight Randy (Couture), but I don’t know. They haven’t confirmed it yet, and Couture also did a surgery in his elbow… But I prefer this fight, it’ll be good to Rodrigo. They want this fight and I believe it won’t be that difficult to Rodrigo. It’s a tough fight, but I think Randy has no knockout power in his punch and, on the ground, Rodrigo will submit (him).”
This sets up two really interesting fights. First it probably means Nogueira vs. Couture is in the future. This would be a great fight between two legends. I never like seeing Randy lose, but for the sake of argument let’s say Couture does get submitted, and Mir beats Lesnar. I think Mir vs. Nogueira 2 is a very enticing match up. Nogueira did not look like himself against Mir and a rematch would clear up a lot of unanswered questions fans have about the staph infection and knee injury that Nogueira fought with. Can’t wait for him to get healthy and back in the octagon!
