The man once known as Jon Koppenhaver to his mother has had a rough time lately. First he lost his nickname, so he changed his real name to War Machine. Then he makes some questionable comments about Evan Tanner’s death which provokes the UFC to drop him from their payroll for lack of class.
Once out of the largest MMA organization and stuck with the name War Machine, he started to work his way up in smaller companies by defeating David Anderson via KO at Desert Rage 4. It seems he may be getting back on track. Not quite.
New MMA company Bellator Fighting Championship signed War Machine and entered him into their tournament, a grand prize of $250,000. That would have been a nice addition to anybody’s pocket.
But again, he uses his own MySpace blog against himself, making disparaging comments about President Barack Obama, forcing the Bellator Fighting Championship to drop him as well.
Last weekend he was partying in a Las Vegas gay bar, he was being escorted out by security and apparently turned on the bouncers. TMZ.com reports as follows:
“Former “Ultimate Fighter” badass Jon Koppenhaver, who goes by the aforementioned MMA nickname, was picked up by Las Vegas PD for misdemeanor battery Saturday morning after allegedly getting into a tussle at Krave Nightclub — a place described by one of their reps as “gay … but very straight-friendly.”
Cops tell TMZ security at Krave was escorting War Machine out of the club after a little brouhaha — when he allegedly turned on security and starting punching them. Security made a citizens arrest until Las Vegas PD could show up.”
