Struggling light heavyweight Houston Alexander will be looking to snap his three fight losing streak in the octagon at UFC 98 versus Andre Gusmao as he makes his second trip to the the big show himself.
Alexander, who’s last three fights have ended in the first round with him in the loser column, he will be looking to leave the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with an explosive victory that shows the UFC that he is back and ready to continue how he started his journey in the octagon. Alexander came to the UFC relatively unknown until he KO’d Keith Jardine in the first round at UFC 71.
Andre Gusmao (5-1) (0-1 in the UFC), will be entering the arena on May 23rd looking to take his record to an even 1-1 to secure himself a third fight in the UFC.
This becomes a tough fight for either fighter since if Alexander loses four in a row, he may have to move to smaller organizations for a while until he can prove himself ready to enter the UFC again. If Gusmao loses and goes to 0-2 in the octagon… well… the UFC doesn’t like that. It may send him out to smaller organizations for a lot longer than it will take Alexander to get back.
