It appears that on March 7th at UFC 96, which is currently set for the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall Grove (9-5) will face off against Jason Day (17-7).
Grove has not fought in 9 months. This is always a challenge for fighters because allows for a lot of time to build anticipation and anxiety. Grove had an explosive start in the UFC but was stopped twice consecutively by Patrick Cote and Jorge Rivera, but in his most recent fight against Evan Tanner he claimed victory in a do-or-die match.
If Grove can win this he will show that he is truly back but he needs to keep Day on the outside because we have seen that once people get past Kendall Grove’s reach he can get KO’d.
Jason Day could really use a win as well. He had a great win versus Alan Belcher at UFC 83 but then was stopped against the tough Michael Bisping in UFC 85. He was supposed to fight Jason Lambert but an injury kept him off the card so now he has to come back with a 1-1 record in his last two fights against a hungry Kendall Grove. Not a very warm welcome, but if he can win then he will definitely put himself on the map, if he loses, Grove will again have established himself as a real-deal competitor int he UFC.
