As the Randy “The Natural” Couture vs. Brock Lesnar bout proximates and gains extensive publicity, Couture still has his eyes on the prize, a fight with Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko. While Brock Lesnar doesn’t want to hear about Fedor, the rest of us can’t help but drool over the possibility of Fedor coming to the UFC for a fight with Couture. Though Fedor is still under contract with Affliction, Dana White has no doubt that the company will soon be out of business by January of 2009. Although that is the earliest he sees negotiations with Fedor, a fight will not happen for a while as Dana White has announced that the winner of the Couture vs. Lesnar fight will fight the winner of Mir vs. Nogueira to see who the real heavyweight champion will be.
UFC Looking to Sign Fedor in the Future
UFC President Dana White states that he will make a fair deal to Fedor to sign with the UFC, but it will have to be for more than one fight. It can be assumed that the reason for this is he doesn’t want to risk the chance of Fedor coming in the UFC, beating the Heavyweight Champion, and walking away as if he had just defeated the UFC’s best fighters. Since Randy Couture is returning to the UFC under a new contract, he will have a few more fights before he retires. He has also stated that if he doesn’t fight Emelianenko he doesn’t think it will take away from his legacy as one of the greatest in UFC history. Couture will be fighting Lesnar at UFC, the UFC 91 Results will be posted here.
